standard signa applique for either a legion or Praetorian standrad fortress brass tower, wall or gate.   Roman standard signa applique legion award of fortress tower, wall or gate.  This tower gate can be seen in a multitude of different designs.  The award was given to a particular cohort that was first to climb an enemies rampart.  There is no one particular design.  The best book in the world of this type of Roman Military art can be found written by Valerie A Maxfield and is called "THE MILITARY DECORATIONS OF THE ROMAN ARMY".  I highly recommend it.  The Roman standard pole would go through the tower.  The Roman army as well as it's military decoration's did not have a standard design.  The one you see here is 100% carved wood and has been finished with liquid gold leaf paint made here in the USA.  This was a one time item and will not be made again.  This piece was left over from an earlier standard project I did.
